This classic tale from Chaucer tells of a poor widow whose modest possessions include several barnyard animals, most notably the radiant—and conceited—rooster, Chanticleer, and his beautiful wife, Pertelote. All is peaceful on the little farm until Chanticleer is caught off guard by a flattering fox who beguiles the cocky rooster, then captures and carries him away, much to the chagrin of the widow and the other animals. Through his own wits, and with some help from his barnyard friends, Chanticleer turns the tables on the fox's deception and escapes a dreaded fate as all learn a valuable lesson from the moral fo the tale. This lively, humorous story may easily be performed by children or adults or a combination of both.
