It's a clash of wills between Victoria and her mother, the strong-willed Duchess of Kent, who has always refused to let her daughter grow up. Vicky must sleep in a cot by her mother's bed, let her mother make every decision—in effect, speak for her. But now she's 18, and the very next morning, without asking permission, she moves into a bedroom of her own! The next day, the Archbishop of Canterbury appears, insisting on seeing the princess. Again, the clash of wills—the hour is unseemly, the princess asleep. A dramatic encounter follows as the young girl in her plain dressing gown and slippers learns that she is now queen. The frantic duchess tries to capture royal power but now it is Victoria's world.
Great for competition for high schools with predominate female participation.
This play has some dynamic characters. It has a pleasant mix of comic moments and dramatic moments, but there are also some truly intense scenes.
What a wonderful vehicle for developing and displaying acting. The conflict between Victoria and her mother brought raves from our audience.
