A snowy night. A drive through a mountain canyon. "Nothing bad happens if I'm late" thinks 16-year-old Eli as he creeps along this winding road. He doesn't know anything about his soon-to-be passenger, Samantha, except that she's a friend of a friend and needs a ride to Home Depot. But Eli is glad for the company, especially considering the stuff that's been going on in his town. Soon, though, Eli's terrible driving sparks an argument, and the conversation takes an odd, dark turn. Eli and Samantha tell stories designed to scare each other. Eli's story is haunting, but he's out of his league. Once Samantha tells her story, Eli finds himself driving too fast, not because he's going to be late, but because he wants out of that car. Eli's not going to make it to Home Depot. One Lane Bridge is relentlessly compelling, genuinely scary and contains one moment so startling that your audience is guaranteed to talk about it afterward.
Stephen Gregg has done it again! This newest one-act is delicious! There are plenty of opportunities to use creativity ... from the cast, director and designers. A fun journey!
The play was very spooky. My cast and crew were very excited to perform this piece. The play was well written and very suspenseful.
We loved working on this spooky piece — and earning the top superior at the Nevada State Thespian Conference in 2013! We look forward to performing on behalf of Nevada at the International Thespian Festival in June 2013!
One Lane Bridge is a spell binder piece. This will leave young audiences sitting at the edge of their seats, guessing what is going to happen. Our audience was talking about possible scenarios weeks after the show!
One Lane Bridge was performed by the advanced drama class at our fall showcase (with intermediate monologues). Audiences said they were at the edge of their seats, and some were thoroughly scared!
A genius blend of complexity and simplicity!
... A minimal set worked great for us. I recommend utilizing the stage lights for some of the special effects such as blue lighting for the “pitch black” scene and increasingly brightening the lights to suggest car headlights approaching.
