In this family-friendly holiday mystery, Sherlock Holmes is asked to discover the identity of a man who lost his hat and goose in a late-night scuffle. At first, Holmes treats the request as only a mild curiosity, but then the countess of Morcar’s rare and valuable blue carbuncle is found stuffed down the goose’s throat. The pursuit of the thief leads Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson from 221B Baker Street to Covent Garden Market and all over the streets of wintry London.
Our cast, crew and community loved this production. Most of the lines fall to Sherlock and Watson, naturally, but there were other small roles that really stood out, too. Run time was 1 hour 20 minutes with a 15 minute intermission. We added some public domain carols as musical interludes as the script suggests. It was a great way to start the holiday season.
We used long white socks with orange beaks sewn on for puppet geese in the scene with James Ryder and Mrs. Oakshott. When Holmes, Watson and Ryder get in a carriage, We had a cardboard carriage with cardboard wheels, Nutmeg, the horse was a hobby horse. It got applause at each performance.
