This play, which scored impressively in several major play contests, begins with a man spending an ordinary evening in his ordinary home with his ordinary family. Then a psychiatrist enters. The man, it seems, is not at home but in a hospital. His family, we learn, is dead … or are they? After the doctor leaves, the man's wife returns to ask if he is still fantasizing that his family is dead. His wife, it seems, is real … or is she? When she leaves—at play's end—the man and the audience must decide which reality is the real one.
Fantastic show for any program with a limited budget ...
Well written script that contains hidden surprises for actors and director. The show rewards thoughtful work and those who are willing to look below the surface. The technical requirements are minimal, so this is a great show for an evening of one acts or as a competition piece.
Mirrors is a challenge for high school actors. It is a complex psychological drama that is conducive to student discussion. Its intensity generates audience reaction. Is Fred Peterson still living in the past? -- a perpetual question.
Excellent. The play "Mirrors" is very well written and open to interpretation.
Very interesting to perform. We liked the surreal aspect.
My students appreciated the emotional content of this play and the opportunity to play powerful, dramatic characters. The audience was moved by the performance and impressed with the compelling performances of the students.
Very well received by the audiences. We kept them guessing -- much discussion engendered as to which part of Fred Peterson's life was real. Well actedÑcharacters fully realized.
Follow all of the provided lighting choices - it really made the storytelling very clear!
The pace of this show is critical. It is full of short, rapid fire dialogue that must be carefully rehearsed. Push for memorization early and seek to find variation in the pace. Make sure that the actors are listening and responding rather that just "doing" pace (if that makes sense).
