The traditional opening night cry of "Break a leg!" really means "Good luck," but in this comedy send-up of every possible theatrical disaster, breaking a leg is the only thing that doesn't happen. Actors answer the phone before it rings. Doors open before anyone knocks. Guns and lights go off when they shouldn't and don't go off when they should. Then the leading actress gets upset because her mother's boyfriend eloped with her boyfriend's mother. "Disaster proof" fun for all!
Break a Leg! was a riot. Not only did our audiences enjoy it, but our actors had a great time with the high energy comedy.
An extremely humorous absurdist comedy. Very fast-paced with lots of puns, one-liners and jokes. Leaves lots of room for interpretation. Easy set to produce.
Break a Leg! is a hilarious show that is perfect for high school students. There are loads of fun characters that young actors have no trouble in making their own. Take a laugh-out-loud script, add some Shakespeare, and a set that falls down and the audience will still be laughing on the way home.
Break a Leg! was well received by our audiences. People came a second and even a third time! It was our second highest grossing show next to Shakespeare's Romeo and JulietÑand who could touch Shakespeare?
The slapstick nature of the comedy made it fun for the students to rehearse and perform. Getting the background information for the Shakespeare scene made it educational. So for a total theatrical experience, I heartily recommend this play.
If you can get a favorite teacher to record the voice-over parts, it adds a lot of fun for the students in the audience.
