Customer Reviews

Very fun show. Intentionally picked for my first show as Director of Theatre at Loras College: a flexible, small ensemble cast; highly theatrical and adventurous; physically comedic and adventurous. Was an impressive (and manageable) show to begin my tenure with.

Ryan Decker, Loras College, Dubuque, Iowa

80 Days is a fun-filled show with a wide variety of colorful characters. The incredible flexibility made it an ideal show when we weren't sure which actors were coming back the next year.

Jace Roscoe, Townview Theatre, Dallas, Texas

Mark Brown takes a complex tale full of dates, times & places and turns it into a madcap race full of wit & spunk.

Jef Dinsmore, Punxsutawney Theatre Arts Guild, Punxsutawney, Pa.

It is an exciting challenge for actors as they deal with multiple characters, accents and costume changes in this madcap trip around the world.

Jef Dinsmore, Punxsutawney Theatre Arts Guild, Punxsutawney, Pa.

This is a great script for a large group. Lots of small roles for less experienced actors.

Sandy Kutyn, Kings Christian School School, Salmon Arm, British Columbia, Canada

We had an excellent production. Very well received by our audiences and reviewers.

Peter Earle, The Academy of Performing Arts, Orleans, Mass.

Around the World is the best script I've produced from Dramatic Publishing. It is funny, well written, and full of action and drama. The cast had lots of fun, and it was very popular with the audience.

Richard Bellamy, Cape Cod Academy, Osterville, Mass.

We enjoyed performing Around the World in 80 Days. Our high schoolers have performed nine plays over the last nine years and we were told that this was our best play by far. We performed the play with thirteen students performing various parts.

Bruce Barker, Faith Christian School, Lake Odessa, MI

Hints, Tips, and Tricks

Find a clever way to use a unit set. Even small scene changes really slow the show down because there are so many of them. If you’re willing to cast extras at each location, putting them in full costume is a great alternative to changing a set.

Jeff Caron, MMS Drama Club, Merrimack, N.H.

This script requires well-crafted physical comedy and sound effects to fill the gaps imagination leaves out.

Ryan Decker, Loras College, Dubuque, Iowa

Use the stage decorations to help you change the sets. For instance, we used a shipping crate (on wheels), fabric from the Chinese docks, and a decorative elephant head to create their elephant ride through India.

Jace Roscoe, Townview Theatre, Dallas, Texas

Though it can be performed with an actor per role I think it would take away from the appeal. We performed it with 6 people doing 39 parts and wouldn't have done it any other way.

Jef Dinsmore, Punxsutawney Theatre Arts Guild, Punxsutawney, Pa.

Do keep the set simple and let the antics of the performers hold the audience. For example, manufacturing an elephant is really not required. Simple wooden set pieces (benches & chairs) is all it takes.
