The comic essence of the marvelous film with all its verbal and visual humor has been captured here in an entirely practical play that is both easy and fun to stage. The world's most unusual criminologist, Chief Inspector Jacques Clouseau—a role originally created by Peter Sellers—fights for his life and for the future of all mankind in the most bizarre and dangerous caper of his brilliantly successful and utterly clumsy career. Paul Dreyfus, once his long-suffering boss, now turned into a raving lunatic, holds the world at bay with the ultimate weapon, the Doomsday Machine. Dreyfus is out to get Clouseau, the man whose undeserved success has driven him crazy, and he threatens to vaporize continents if the nations of the world don't deliver Clouseau to him—alive or, if at all possible, dead! Blissfully unaware that the army of deadly assassins is gunning for him, or that the beautiful girl who seeks him out is a Russian agent, Clouseau incredibly stumbles and slips by every attack. However, the world is running out of time because the increasingly frustrated Dreyfus, doodling with the Doomsday Machine, is running out of patience. At the critical moment, it suddenly appears that Clouseau is finally running out of luck. Then he fires from the hip and hits—our funny bone!
This was fun to produce! A well-written script that kept my students challenged and engaged throughout rehearsal. It was a real crowd-pleaser too -- lots of humor for adults and enough slapstick and pratfalls for younger kids to enjoy as well!
The Pink Panther Strikes Again is the funniest play I've directed. The physical comedy in this play makes us all laugh at every practice. We love it.
The actors' skills in comedy were greatly improved by playing the straight action and lines of this brilliantly created comedy. Actors played numerous roles except for the five leads and had the audiences roaring.
This is a very funny script and remains quite true to the movie version. The comedy is very physical, too, which appeals to even the youngest of audiences. Technically, it's quite challenging. There are 22 scenes! We started our tech rehearsals a week early to accommodate all the learning of the timing.
This play is an absolute riot on stage! It is certainly a crowd pleaser. All of the physical comedy coupled with a very basic staging makes for a very educational experience for the actors and a very pleasing outcome for all audiences. It is a wonderful show for a large cast and is surprisingly inexpensive to produce.
This is an absolute must. It is fun to do, appeals to kids, young and older. We did this with students ranging in age from 11 to 18. Staging is simple, costumes can be done at minimal cost.
This show was one of the funniest we have ever done. For the first time ever, we were critiqued by "The Cappies," which is a national theatre peer review group. Here are some of the wonderful things they wrote: "The Pink Panther Strikes Again was one of the best high-school shows I have seen. I have never encountered so much laughter from a live show." "It was very clever to see the technicians dressed as pink panthers and acting fully in character." "Overall this play was hilarious and kept the audience entertained from start to finish." "I was at the edge of my seat in laughter and anticipation to see what Jacques Clouseau would do next." As the director, I appreciated the ease with which we could change the minimal sets and the fact that the costuming was relatively easy.
This play had the audience in stitches from curtain to curtain. Also, it's a nice opportunity to get many students involved, while at the same time providing a good challenge for the more advanced performers.
This was a great show. The students loved it. They liked the choreographed fight scenes and the 60s-70s costumes. The assassin scene was a hit, as was Jarvis dressed as a woman and singing.
Superb! A hit for our senior high drama students. Loved it! So did our audience. Great for creative actors!
The Pink Panther Strikes Again is an episodic adaptation of the Blake Edwards original. It offers a wide range of actors numerous comic opportunities but depends on a strong lead actor.
Lots of great roles for a wide range of skills. Play was fun to produce and fun to watch!
Keep sets simple, and have a large cast available that does physical comedy well.
We used a scrim and rear projection to create the backdrops for the grounds of the insane asylum, the outdoor cafe and the beer garden.
Be sure to have a fast and dedicated stage crew to make the 22 scene changes as seamless as possible.
