Mother has a meatloaf in the oven and is well on her way to having the perfect dinner party, but one thing stands in her way—the end of the world as we know it! Is that going to stop her perfect party from happening? Not at all! Like moths to a flame, the house lights are attracting all types of unexpected guests. Join her in The Perfect Ending as she juggles a grease monkey, looting neighbors, an insurance salesman, her son's juvenile delinquent girlfriend and many other zany characters in an attempt to maintain a perfect house and to be the absolute perfect hostess, right up until the very last moment. Will the world come to an end, or will Mother get to have her perfect dinner party?
We performed The Perfect Ending for contest this year and found that audiences and judges loved it as much as we did. It is a great work for character study and exploring a new acting style. It has been SO MUCH FUN!
We performed "The Perfect Ending" by B. Dwayne Craft, a comedy about the world ending in the 1950's. What a fun romp through the lives of the perfect family, visited by all manner of weird and wonderful unexpected guests. We thoroughly enjoyed portraying these characters and the play was a "blast"! We won our regional competition and moved on to States and placed fifth in the State Class B Drama Festival. We had 5 people named to all festival cast at Regionals (brother, little sister, grandpa, Civil Defense Warden and Avon Lady) and 4 at States (mother, little sister, Avon Lady and Martha) and received an award for hair and makeup.
The Perfect Ending was a hit with our audiences who could not stop laughing. The large cast of unusual characters provided roles for newer actors as well as more experienced ones. The simple set allowed us plenty of time to focus on line delivery and tempo.
If you are a fan of the 50's this play is right up your alley. Very stereotypical period dress and décor. I used a couple of flats that were off center to indicate the living room walls (I like the audience to have to think a bit).
For Little Sister's knife, we used a plastic butcher knife that had red cloth stuck in the middle, so that when she returned from the kitchen the cloth came down in "blood droplets" without a mess.
