Synopsis

Making thorough use of Twain's own language and rapid-fire storytelling style, this classic comic tale of hypocrisy and its consequences takes us to the self-righteous town of Hadleyburg. A stranger, who has been done wrong by the selfish inhabitants of the town, is about to have his revenge. Suspecting the greed and duplicity lurking beneath the Hadleyburgers' preoccupation with appearances above all else, the stranger sets out to expose the true moral bankruptcy of the town whose motto is: "Lead Us Not Into Temptation." With his usual potent mix of unforgettable characters and broad comedy, Mark Twain punctures pretensions and serves up a searching look at ourselves.

Customer Reviews

A well scripted adaptation of Twain's short story that brings the story alive.

This delightful show was a successful evening of full-costumed and musical entertainment that wowed our audiences. We turned a small wonderful play and story into a grand and raucous evening of live theatre. Our pictures are on the Dramatic Publishing website.
