Susan Lieberman began her career in theatre as a production assistant at Charles Marowitz's Open Space Theatre in London. She later worked for producer Thelma Holt at London's Round House and then spent four years in New York City as associate editor of Theatre Crafts magazine. Upon returning to her hometown of Chicago, she became a resident playwright at Chicago Dramatists where her first play, Marek's Monkey, was produced. Her other plays include Steamship Quanza (with co-author Stephen J. Morewitz), produced in Chicago and upstate New York; Arrangement for Two Violas, first seen in Stage Left Theatre's LeapFest I and later produced by Visions and Voices Theatre Company, was the recipient of a 2004-2005 Jeff Citation for New York. Lieberman is also the author of four children's teleplays, among them "Sandy and Sam" (WGN-TV) and "Prairie Latkes" (WBBM-TV), both regional Emmy nominees. "Prairie Latkes" was later expanded into the musical Prairie Lights, produced for two consecutive seasons by Stage Left and recipient of a Joseph Jefferson Award nomination for Best New Work in 2003. Lieberman lives in suburban Chicago with her husband, Jim Stoller, and their three children—Gabrielle, Julia and Joshua.
