Paul Pilcher would have majored in drama if it had been available at Princeton University in the 1960s but since it wasn't he majored in political science and spent all of his time in the theater. He went into teaching and working with children in schools and summer camping. The Velveteen Rabbit was a favorite book of his among many in the 1960s and 1970s, which is what inspired he and Barnes Boffey to write the musical for a summer camp performance at Camp Lanakila in 1972. In 1974 their musical was published by Dramatic Publishing. This was their first and only musical though both Boffey and Pilcher continued to work with children and to do drama/theater. Pilcher is now semi-retired on Cape Cod enjoying sailing, tennis, grandkids and a lot of very good community theater.
