Prior to joining the faculty of Arizona State University as an Assistant Professor of theatre in 1999, Pamela Sterling served as Artistic Director of The Coterie Theatre in Kansas City, Honolulu Theatre for Youth and Idaho Theatre for Youth. Among her honors are directing and playwriting awards from the St. Louis Post Dispatch, the Hawaii State Theatre Council, the AriZoni's and the Arizona Tribune's "Maxie" Awards. Academic honors include the Winifred Ward Scholarship. Pamela's scripts published by Dramatic Publishing Company are The Adventures of Nate the Great, Friday's Child, and The Secret Garden. The Secret Garden is also included in Coleman Jennings' anthology Twenty Great Plays for Children, and received the American Alliance for Theatre and Education's Distinguished Play Award. Her most recent plays include Court of Two Queens: The First Divorce of Henry VIII, Bully Pulpit: Teddy Roosevelt, and Children of the Moor: The Bronte Family, commissioned and produced by Historyonics Theatre in St. Louis. Sterling's extensive work in new play development as a dramaturg and director includes Tomato Plant Girl by Wesley Middleton; The Incredible Disappearing Lady by Maria Headley for the Kennedy Center's New Visions/New Voices program; and In the Garden of the Selfish Giant by Sandra Asher for the Bonderman National Playwriting Festival and Symposium. At Arizona State University, Pamela's work with new plays has included teaching courses for the MFA Playwriting program headed by Guillermo Reyes and directing successful premiere productions of Happy Birthday, Katie Valentine by Mark Kosloff and "the vine" a hip-hop theatre piece incorporating slam poetry by Jose Casas.
