Khaled Hosseini was born in Kabul, Afghanistan. His family moved to the United States when he was 15. He studied medicine and was a practicing physician before pursuing a career in writing. He is the author of The Kite Runner and other books. He is also the founder of The Khaled Hosseini Foundation, an organization that assists Afghan women and children, and serves as Goodwill Ambassador to UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency.
