Karen L. Lewis’ plays have been performed at the Spoleto Festival USA and off-Broadway. George Sand: A Passionate Cantata was commissioned by Pendragon Theatre in Saranac Lake, N.Y., and produced at the Invisible Eye in Arizona. She received a Mary Roberts Rinehart Grant to complete Ezili. Her play Safe Harbor was produced by Pendragon Theatre, and she has had readings (staged or not) of various plays at various places of varying distinction. The Perfect Wife won the 2012 Stanley Drama Award, was a semi-finalist for both the 2012 Eugene O’Neill Theatre’s National Playwrights Conference and the Actors Theatre of Charlotte nuVoices for a nuGeneration Playwriting Festival. Even, later retitled Shades of Valor, was read at the 2013 Last Frontier Theatre Conference and nominated for the Susan Nims Distinguished Playwriting Award. Shades of Valor was a finalist at Panndora’s Box New Works Festival and, as a winner of the AACT NewPlayFest, was premiered at Twin City Stage in Winston-Salem, N.C. Years of soap-opera writing has resulted in five Emmys and four Writers Guild of America awards. Lewis is a member of The Writers Guild of America and the Dramatists Guild.
