During the original production of Black Sash, Emily Overmyer was a homeschooled senior from Saucier, Miss. She graduated from Keystone National High School in 2014 with plans to attend university to study linguistics and emergency management. Overmyer has a strong passion for traveling, writing, photography and volunteering in her community. Among other projects, she has researched and designed an African exhibit at the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center, the first children's museum in Mississippi. The performing arts have always been a large part of her life, and Overmyer is in awe that she can add Adjudicators Excellence in Playwriting (from the Mississippi Theatre Association Conference) and published playwright to her list of accomplishments. Overmyer plans to continue writing about her travels and her interests throughout college. Black Sash is the first playwriting project in which Overmyer has participated, and she feels extremely honored to have been a part of it.
