Beatrice Karp was born in Lauterbach, Germany, in 1932. She survived the Holocaust, moving to New York City after the war. Karp married Bob Pappenheimer, with whom she had four daughters. She was the grandmother of seven and great-grandmother of two. She and Bob left New York for the Midwest, ending up in Omaha, Neb. A few years after Bob’s death, she married Harold Karp. Throughout her time in Omaha, she spoke about her experiences during WWII at schools in Nebraska and Iowa, reaching thousands of children. In addition, she talked to other groups, such as incarcerated women, clubs and other various groups. Speaking about the tragedies and lessons one could learn from the Holocaust was a passion she shared with those who listened.
